What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin porcelain facings that are placed on the front of teeth.
A little bit of tooth is removed and the veneer is placed just level with the gum.
Think of them like false fingernails but for your teeth, hiding wear and tear or discolouration and producing a great cosmetic result.
Why Would I Want Veneers?
Veneers are great for a smile makeover and are fantastic for teeth which are stained, a little bit twisted or teeth which have got numerous fillings.
They look really good and after you have them done you'll want to smile all the time.
Video Introduction to Veneers
In this short video Dr McCarthy explains why porcelain veneers are such a useful part of cosmetic dentistry and which patients can really benefit from them.
Which Dental Conditions Benefit From Veneers?
A lot of patients suffer from teeth staining thanks to a number of conditions.
Other people, after a lifetime have got jagged or slightly uneven teeth or teeth which are just slightly twisted.
Veneers are also very good after a short course of orthodontic treatment.
A number of patients suffer from teeth which are not aligned properly. And once teeth have been aligned patients still may not be happy with their appearance.
Veneers are great for getting your smile back to the way you want it to be.
Does it Hurt to Get Veneers?
Veneers aren't painful. You have a little bit of local anaesthetic at treatment time to counteract any discomfort.
What Happens When I Get Veneers?
- On your first appointment we take some dental photographs then look at the photographs with you so you can decide what you want, including edging and shade.
- On your second appointment we prepare each individual tooth and make temporary veneers which you can wear when you leave. This appointment usually lasts about two hours.
- Seven days later you return to the surgery for your veneer fittings. The temporary veneers will be removed and your new veneers bonded on and placed in. Then you can go home with your confident new smile.
What about matching my veneers to my teeth?
We take time in the surgery to help you decide which colour you want. You get the input and it is very important we use natural light because you don't get artificial light when you are walking down the street.
We have a comprehensive shade guide and we are able to use that to match the veneers to your teeth for a perfect smile.
